A first of its kind at Happinest Student Care, this three-day introductory drama programme invites children aged seven to eleven to explore the magic of theatre for the very first time! With a focus on imagination, voice, movement, and collaboration, the experience culminates in a mini showcase on the final day — a celebration of courage, creativity, and community.

For the very first time, we are bringing the stage to Happinest. Spotlight Stories is a pilot drama programme designed to give every child, whether loud or quiet, confident or shy, their first taste of theatre in a warm, welcoming, and joy-filled setting. Over three thoughtfully curated sessions, children will learn to express themselves through drama games, role play, storytelling, and ensemble-building activities. More than just play, this is a purposeful introduction to foundational theatre skills.

Each day builds on the last, with a clear and achievable goal in mind: to end off with a mini performance that every child can be proud of and share with their families.

We understand that holiday schedules can vary, and not every child may be able to attend all three days. Whether your child joins us for one, two, or all three days, they will still walk away having explored key elements of drama, from creative movement and voice work to character-building and ensemble play. Every session stands alone in its own discoveries, ensuring no child feels left out or left behind.

Children are encouraged to attend all three full days to fully enjoy the complete drama experience. However, we understand that some may only be able to attend two or one day. In such cases, participants will still be included meaningfully and given supporting roles in the final performance. We seek your kind understanding as we ensure every child gets the chance to shine in their own way.

To keep the spotlight on their expressions and movements, children are encouraged to wear black.

We are also offering a special flat rate for this pilot programme. Whether your child attends two days or all three, it is the same price because we want everyone to experience the full journey. The final day is a joyful bonus, a celebration of all they have learnt. Even if your child can only attend one day, our facilitators will ensure they are meaningfully included as part of the ensemble.

Daily Breakdown

Day 1: “My Voice, My Body, My Stage”
We begin by exploring the most important tools in theatre: the voice and the body. Through engaging warm-ups, silly sound games, movement activities, and role play, children will begin to understand how actors use their whole selves to communicate meaning and emotion. The emphasis will be on fun, trust-building, and helping every child feel safe and seen.

Day 2: “Characters Come Alive!”
Children will step into the shoes of different characters and collaborate in small groups to build short, imaginative scenes. We will explore how a simple idea — a lost shoe, a magical garden, a secret door — can become a full performance. Older students will naturally take on supportive, guiding roles within their groups, encouraging leadership through action rather than label.

Day 3: “Showtime!”
The final day is all about bringing it all together. With guidance, children will rehearse and polish their scenes, learn how to give a cue, enter confidently, and take a bow. Instead of a live showcase, we will be capturing their performance on video — a keepsake that will be shared with parents after the programme. This allows every family to witness their child’s growth, confidence, and creativity as they take their first steps into the world of theatre.

What to Bring

  • A small notebook (for simple reflections and character journaling)

  • A pencil case with writing materials

  • A water bottle

  • A light jacket (the room may be cool)

Key Takeaways

  • Confidence through Expression: Children will learn to express themselves clearly and confidently, whether through voice, gesture, or movement. For many, this may be the first time they stand and speak before a group, and this supportive environment helps them take that brave step with pride.

  • Creative Thinking and Imagination: Drama invites children to think on their feet, invent new ideas, and ask “what if.” Through role play and storytelling, they will develop flexible thinking and a willingness to try new perspectives, skills that extend far beyond the stage.

  • Respect and Teamwork: Theatre is never a one-person show. Children will learn how to collaborate, listen actively, give and receive ideas, and work as an ensemble. These lessons build empathy and respect for others, helping students value different contributions.

  • Performance and Presence: From learning how to take a cue, to projecting their voices, to bowing at the end, children will be gently introduced to the fundamentals of performance. These skills help them build stage presence and overcome shyness in a joyful, low-pressure setting.

  • Focus and Discipline in Play: Even as they play and imagine, children are learning how to follow sequences, rehearse with purpose, and stay committed to a task. Drama teaches that fun and focus can coexist — a valuable skill in both academic and social settings.

  • Emotional Awareness and Empathy: By stepping into the shoes of others, children begin to explore a range of feelings, situations, and viewpoints. Drama becomes a safe space to express big emotions, build empathy, and understand the human experience in age-appropriate ways.

  • A Sense of Belonging: Whether they are shy or outspoken, every child finds a place in theatre. This programme emphasises that there are no small roles — everyone’s voice, presence, and effort is needed to bring the story to life. That sense of belonging builds self-worth that stays with them.

Come join us and experience the joy of storytelling, the power of imagination, and the magic that happens when children discover their voices on stage. Every child will walk away with confidence, creativity, and memories that shine bright long after the curtain closes.

“All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players…”
